Replacement and new drives
Concrete Driveways in Hodgkins
A driveway specified for the vehicles that use it, with base depth and thickness written into the price.
Specify It Like It Has to Carry a Truck
Driveways fail in predictable ways, and almost all of them trace back to a number that was too small. Base too shallow, so the slab settles. Concrete too thin, so it cracks under a loaded pickup. Joints too far apart, so the slab cracks between them. Steel lying on the stone instead of in the slab, so it does nothing. We fix that by writing the numbers down. The old drive is broken out and hauled away. Soft soil is excavated to firm ground and replaced with compacted stone to a stated depth. Rebar rides on chairs so it lands mid-depth. Thickness is chosen for the heaviest vehicle that will use the drive: a family car, a work van, a pickup with a trailer. Joint spacing is set by that thickness and the drive's width. The apron is tied to the street according to your village's requirements. Then the pour, a broom finish for traction, joints cut on time and a cure period with a clear date for parking. In a village where a lot of people drive commercial vehicles for work, we ask about that on the first call, because a work truck changes the specs.
